Public Liason - Kathleen Hayden - 760-782-9053
Kathleen works directly, and coordinates the efforts of the committee members, in the polical arena, and reports to the group on political matters. This work is tremendously important in keeping public lands open to public use. Kathleen is highly experienced and effective, providing important guidance to Caballeros del Sol members working with public and goverment entities. She is responsible for Public Lands reporting, working with the BCHC State organization, and coordinating our group's efforts with others in the area.
Education Chair - Linda Eskin - 619 441-7675
This work involves designing and delivering educational presentations, workshops, and clinics, and supporting other members in these efforts. This committee addresses groups ranging from elementary school classes to horsemanship clubs and trail organizations. One focus of these presentations in on "Leave No Trace" methods. An educated community of users is key to keeping trails and other lands open.

Membership - Nola Michel - 858 278-9088
Nola chairs the Membership committes, managing all work relating to membership, from helping interested people become Caballeros del Sol, and BCHC members, to keeping membership records, to collecting dues, and expanding the membership. When you become a member, this committee will send you a packet of information introducing you to Backcountry Horsemen and to the Caballeros del Sol unit.
Newsletter - Nola Michel - 858 278-9088
Our unit publishes a monthly newsletter full of information on issues facing equestrians and backcountry users, reports on past and upcoming events, a calendar of rides, campouts, meetings, and work parties... even a little humor. Contributions are welcome! Write up a project or issue you are working on, and send it to Nola. We also accept advertisements - great for reaching active, local horse owners.

The Work Reports and Data committee is responsible for keeping track of work done by the unit (hours, locations...), and reporting the information to the State organization.
Webmaster - Linda Eskin - 619 441-7675
Linda created and maintains the Caballeros del Sol web site. She is responsible for writing or soliciting appropriate content (event information, background papers on local issues...), and presenting the organization to the community in a professional manner. The site must be useful to Unit members, the public, legislators, the press, and others, and forward the mission of the group.
Suggestions about the site, articles, meeting or event information, or other content, can be sent to her (click on her name, above).
Events Coordinator - Position Open - Your chance to help out!
This committee is responsible for scheduling Unit events, and keeping the other chairpersons informed about planned work parties, clinics, meetings, rides, and other events. They coordinate the efforts of the other committees where required for events. The committee is also responsible for handling the insurance for the Unit.
Public Relations - Mike Ellison
The Public Relations committee, headed by Mike, gets the word out to the public about our issues and activities. Press coverage, articles in magazines, banners at events, and brochures explaining our efforts are all part of the job. If you would like information for your publication, radio, or television show, please contact Mike Ellison.
Service Work - Position Open - Your chance to help out!
This committee is directly responsible for some of our most important, impactful work - creating, maintaining, and improving trails and other facilities. The chair coordinates the efforts of members working on various projects throughout the county, working closely with the Public Liason Chair in determining and presenting the results of the work, and provides the Work Reports chair with an accounting of the volunteer labor provided on each project.
Ride Coordinator - Bill Huston - 858 576-2537
Bill works with members who wish to host rides. He supports and coaches those hosts by providing information on leading rides, trail manners and rules, and working with them to sign up new members at rides.
Rides are wonderful social events, but they are much more - rides introduce our group to other trail users, make us aware of any problems with certain trails, and promote equestrian trail use. Trails that are not used are soon closed or overgrown - it's important to get out and enjoy our trails.
Equipment Manager - Bill Huston - 858 576-2537
As Equipment Manager, Bill is responsible for cataloging and keeping track of the Unit's equipment, from shovels and water coolers, to heavy equipment. Members wishing to use the club's equipment in service work should contact Bill.

Responsible for making sure everything is up-to-date with insurance issues. Arranges special coverage for special events.
Promotions - Nola Michel - 858 278-9088
The Promotions committee approaches individuals and organizations to solicit financial contributions to the Unit. Also arranges merchandise sales, raffles, and various event sponsorhips. The funds are used for sending Caballeros del Sol representatives to state level meetings, trails conferences, and government meetings, purchasing work equipment, and producing brochures and other materials to education local trail users.
