Education One of the most important jobs of Caballeros del Sol is educating our members, the public, and current and future trail users in low impact, responsible trail use. In addition to presenting information in the newletter, on this web site, and at meetings, we make presentations at schools, fairs, and conferences, and hold classes and clinics for organizations thoughout the county. If you would like to attend a presentation, or host one for your group, please contact our Education Committee Chair, Linda Eskin. Upcoming Educational Events from Caballeros del Sol: Tenderfoot Rides These easy, supportive rides are perfect for folks who are new to trail riding, or who have young or green mounts. Also for those who just aren't up for the longer, more challenging rides. Tenderfoot rides are one hour long, at a walk, and are held at easy-to-reach local trails with plenty of parking away from busy roads - Sweetwater Summit, Border Field State Park, South Lane Park in Crest, etc. Each ride includes a brief talk on some aspect of backcountry horsemanship - safety on the trail, backcountry manners, camping with horses, trailering tips, etc. After the ride we will enjoy our brown-bag lunches and share stories and helpful information. Anyone who wants to ride again after lunch is free to do so. These are a great way to get involved and have fun. We also need experienced people on steady mounts to be a "good influence" on the greenies, so all of you old-timers are welcome too! Backcountry 101 - Backcountry Horsemanship and Packing Previous "Backcountry 101" clinics have been a great success, and this one will be even bigger and better - more hands-on learning, more workshops, more demonstrations. Best of all, it's FREE. In an effort to introduce as many people as possible to backcountry skills and ethics we are inviting everyone to participate in Backcountry 101 at no charge. So bring the family, and invite all your barn buddies. Watch for the dates here - we hope to see you there!
