California Riding and Hiking Trail (CRHT) No Longer Blocked - Lock on Gate Has Been Removed.

A section of the CHRT in Chihuahua Valley (which is between Warner Springs and Anza) had been blocked by a private party's locked gate. The person has removed the locked, and the trail is open once again. Thanks to everyone involved for their support in this matter.

This section of the CRHT is a very valuable trail. There is a loop ride that takes 8 hours and includes part of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Most people don't do 8 hr rides, so this loop goes unused. The CRHT section divides that loop and makes it 2, 4 hour loops. So basically this gate not only blocked the CRHT, it also blocked reasonable access to the PCT.

Trail Defense and Indemnification Ordinance Passes

The County of San Diego passed Ordinance 9233, the Trail Defense and Indemnification Ordinance, which protects property owner from claims by trail users. What this means is that property owners who want a dedicated County recreational trail across their land no longer need to fear legal action by trail users in the event of an injury or other problem. The ordinance enables developers and others to include trails in their plans, making their communities more attractive to active, outdoors-oriented people.
