Borrego Work Project - Lower Willows Trail Please join the San Diego Unit for this ambitious trail-building effort!
Last weekend's Backcountry Horsemen project in Borrego was a HUGE success. See the Thursday 2-22 edition of the North County Times and the next issue of the Trailhead newsletter for a complete report. We had over 34 volunteers participate and we managed to clear a "dry" route through most of the Lower Willows. The trail still needs work to be safe for stock and hikers. We have organized two additional projects with the Park to reach our goal of making this trail suitable for hikers and horsemen this spring. Please read the flyer pasted below and join this incredible and rewarding effort.
Anza Borrego Desert State Park Volunteer Trail Day February 23 to 26 AND March 2 to 6 RAIN or SHINE! This project is open to all horsemen and hikers. Come and be a part of this incredible volunteer effort that is providing a "dry" trail for hikers and horsemen through the Lower Willows section of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. This trail re-alignment project will help protect sensitive habitat and afford the rider/hiker a beautiful trail without the mud and the muck that plagues the current route. We've already established a "dry" route that volunteers can use to reach the trail project sites without getting wet. Can't attend? Consider making a donation to the BCHC San Diego Unit Service Project Fund. Click here for a form with details. All volunteers can enjoy FREE camping at the beautiful Vern Whitaker Horse Camp. Enjoy luxury camping with corrals, clean bathrooms and a hot shower. Reserve your corrals today, space is limited. Reservations MUST be made in advance, whether using corrals or not.
