Granite Hills Equestrian Community

Who is working on these issues already?

There are many organizations in our area working to create and maintain trails, purchase land for public use, and keep public lands accessible to equestrians. Please support and participate in them however you can. If you do not have time, they can always put contributions to good use.

If you are a member of one of these groups, please consider joining the mailing list (below) and sending a brief update to everyone after your meetings.

Caballeros del Sol - A unit of Backcountry Horsemen of California focusing on our area and issues.

A brief aside... When I first heard of "Backcountry Horsemen", I was not interested - I don't do wilderness horse camping - so why join them? Well, it turns out the name is a bit misleading. Backcountry Horsemen of California is a powerful lobbying and education organization dedicated to addressing issues that affect horsepeople thoughout the state.

Area Equestrian Businesses

These folks have the same concerns we do, since their businesses rely on equestrians living and riding in our area. Please support them, so they can go on supporting us.

Hidden Fox Farm - A beautiful new lesson and boarding facility on La Cresta Road (uphill from Greenfield). If you've always wanted to learn to ride, or can't keep a horse at home, you couldn't ask for a nicer, more convenient place.

Riding Magazine - A valuable source of information on local events, people, and businesses. I highly recomment subscribing to be sure to hear about upcoming rides and shows. (Their web site is fairly new - the magazine is more thorough.)

Lakeside Saddle & Driving Club - A privately owned equestrian facility in Lakeside that is available for use by members (only $100/year).

One, that has no web site, but is very supportive of the community, is East County Large Animal Practice (ECLAP), including four veterinarians: Greg Smith, Craig Chandler, Kim Sergent, and Kirsten Wegner. They can be reached at 619 561-4661 ,

If you know of other groups that should be on this list, please send me their information. Thank you!
